On the Banks of the Scenic Kettle River

About Us   The Sandstone Area Chamber of Commerce would like to invite you to visit the Historic City of Sandstone and all it has to offer.

The city was built up around a large sandstone quarry and the first permanent settlers came to Sandstone in 1885.  By 1887 it had 200 residents and today there are about 2000.  Many of the still standing buildings were built by the noted Canadian American Railroad Executive James J. Hill.

Sandstone is located on the scenic Kettle River which is known for its glacial kettles and wild rapids.  Canoe and kayak enthusiasts consider it to be one of the best whitewater rivers in the area.

Robinson Park, the site of an old quarry that once employed 600 men, is on the National Registry of Historical Places.  It serves as the community picnic area in the summer months and as an ice climbing wall in the winter months.  It is also an access point for the Kettle River and you can hike from Robinson Park in Sandstone to Banning State Park.

Sandstone has gained national recognition as the home of the "Midwest Country Music Theater" which is aired on the RFD TV.  It is open to the public for live performances most weekends throughout the year.  There is an old fashioned 50's style "61 Motel" for out-of-town visitors who would like to spend the night.

Sandstones Public Library offers wireless Internet connections and has computer availability.

The History and Art Center, also on the National Registry, houses quarry artifacts and rotating exhibits related to the Great Hinckley Fire and the Railroad of days gone by.  It is often used as a central point for genealogy research.

Each year Sandstone hosts many family fun filled events such as:

We also offer a 2,598 yard 9-hole golf course.

All of our events are open to the public and you will always be welcomed in our community.  We at the Sandstone Chamber and our businesses would like to thank you for visiting our website and invite you to come back.  We look forward to serving your needs and making your stay in Sandstone as pleasant as possible.

While you are in town please stop by the Veterans Memorial located on Main Street at the Train Park.  If you would like further assistance please call our office at 320-245-2271 or you can write us at:
